The Challenge

The Starting Point

B2B companies in Singapore often have a marketing team that is good at events, brochures and LinkedIn, but has never been taught search. Engineers and procurement buyers search for very specific product terms, model numbers and standards, and the companies that rank are usually the ones whose own people understand those terms. Searches for seo course singapore run at about 210 a month, and seo training singapore at about 20, yet most public courses teach general theory on made-up websites. What a team like this needs is training on its own site, with its own products, and someone to check the work afterwards.

This distributor supplied industrial valves, pumps and fittings to contractors and plant operators, and employed about 85 people. Its four-person marketing team had inherited a 400-page website built by a vendor, with duplicated product pages and titles that read like part codes. Nobody owned SEO. The team spent about 6 hours a month on it, mostly pulling ranking reports. The site drew about 2,600 organic visits a month, had 18 keywords in Google's top 10 and brought in around 7 organic enquiries a month. The marketing manager did not want to outsource SEO indefinitely, and asked for the team to be trained to run it themselves.

What We Did

What We Did

Phase 1, Month 1

A Review of Their Own Site

Before the first workshop, we ran an SEO audit of the team's own website: technical health, duplicated product pages, page titles, internal links and the search terms buyers actually used. The result was a fix list of 128 issues, ranked by effort and likely impact, which became the coursework for the whole programme. We also made sure the team had admin access to Search Console, Google Analytics and the website.

Training on a made-up site teaches theory. Training on your own site produces fixes that go live. Every exercise in the workshops used a real page from the fix list, so the team improved the site while learning, and nothing taught in the room was left to apply later.

Phase 2, Months 1 to 2

Workshops 1 to 3: Search Basics on Real Pages

Three half-day workshops, two weeks apart, covered how industrial buyers search, keyword research for product and application terms, on-page basics and technical SEO for non-developers. The four marketers attended, along with one sales engineer who knew the product range best. Each session ended with a set of fixes from the list to finish before the next one.

Industrial search is different from consumer search. Buyers type model numbers, materials, pressure ratings and standards. Having a sales engineer in the room meant the team could tell which terms real buyers used and which ones only appeared in the catalogue.

Phase 3, Months 2 to 3

Workshops 4 to 6: Content, Links and Reporting

The second set of workshops covered writing briefs and articles from the sales engineers' knowledge, internal linking between products and applications, and reading Search Console and Analytics to report on enquiries rather than rankings. The team left with a brief template, an article checklist and a one-page monthly report they could fill in themselves.

The questions buyers ask sales engineers every week, such as which valve suits seawater or how often a pump seal should be replaced, make better articles than anything an outside writer could produce. Teaching the team to turn those questions into articles gave them a content source they already owned.

Phase 4, Months 1 to 3

Supervised Fixes

Between workshops, the team worked through the fix list. They rewrote 46 page titles and descriptions, merged duplicated product pages with redirects, fixed broken internal links and added application sections to key category pages. We reviewed every change in a shared tracker within two working days and flagged anything that needed a developer.

Most training fails in the weeks after the course, when nobody checks the work. A reviewer on call meant mistakes, such as a redirect pointing to the wrong product, were caught before they cost rankings, and the team built confidence quickly.

Phase 5, Months 4 to 6

Monthly Check-Ins and Handover

After the workshops ended, we held a 90-minute check-in each month to review the team's report, the articles in progress and any drops in traffic. By the end, the team had published 14 articles and was spending about 30 hours a month on SEO, roughly one working day for each of the four marketers, planned in advance instead of squeezed in. We closed with a written playbook covering their processes and when to call in outside help.

A month between check-ins is long enough for the team to work on its own and short enough to correct course. The playbook means a new hire can pick up the process without starting from scratch.

The Results

The Results

Six months after the programme began, the website brought in 15 organic enquiries a month instead of 7. Organic visits rose from 2,600 to 4,700 a month, and the number of keywords in Google's top 10 grew from 18 to 41. All of that came from work the team did themselves: 46 pages fixed and 14 articles published. Five people were trained, and the team now spends about 30 hours a month on SEO, up from 6, with each hour planned against the fix list rather than spent on ranking reports. DMS did not write a page or build a link. Our role was to teach, review and check in.

Key Takeaways

What We Learned

Train on your own site

If you run a B2B business in Singapore and want your team to own SEO, skip courses built around made-up websites. Training that uses your own pages as coursework produces fixes during the programme, not months after it.

Put a product expert in the room

Marketers know the channels. Sales engineers know what buyers actually type. Having one engineer in every workshop was the main reason the team's articles matched real searches.

Pay for the review, not just the lessons

The workshops gave the team the knowledge. The reviews between sessions, and the monthly check-ins afterwards, are what turned that knowledge into 46 fixed pages and 14 articles without costly mistakes.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

It is if the team has time to apply it and someone checks the work. This team fixed 46 pages and published 14 articles within six months, and organic enquiries doubled. Training without follow-up reviews rarely gets that far.
This one ran for three months: six half-day workshops two weeks apart, with supervised fixes in between, then three monthly check-ins. Results took six months to show clearly, which is normal for SEO.
It depends on capacity. If your marketers can give SEO about a day a month each, training builds a skill you keep. If nobody has that time, an agency will usually get you further. Some companies start with an agency and train the team later.
No technical background is needed. It helps to have admin access to the website, Google Search Console and Google Analytics, and at least one person who knows the products well. We start with a review of your own site so the training works on real pages.
